Below you'll find many Denver focused rescue organizations. EDGEWATER, Colo. -- An Edgewater man attempted to buy a rare bengal cat through a website claiming to breed kittens, but instead he lost almost $500 and never got the cat. Anthony Trevino had been planning to buy the pet for his 3-year-old son. out of Massachusetts because it was the best deal. But after sending $480 through Western Union, the conversation went quiet. “He seemed like a friendly guy. But as soon as I sent him money, the length of time he took responding to me, it grew. Hours, six hours sometimes before he would respond to me,” Trevino said. On Saturday, he picked out his new kitten Mandi and was promised a prompt delivery the next day. When the cat didn’t come, he demanded to know why through text messages. He was told he needed to fork over an additional $330 for a crate fee. Trevino called off the deal realizing he made a mistake. He was even threatened when trying to get back his initial payment.
“I know not to send money through Western Union, but for some odd reason I still did that like a dummy. And I paid the price for it,” Trevino said. The man behind the website said personal reasons kept him from sending the cat. He promised to refund the cash right away. The Denver Better Business Bureau plans to look into the website. Experts at the BBB advise shoppers to do their homework before buying online. Watch out for red flags such as misspellings or grammatical errors and never send cash. “I just want this guy to stop doing this to people. Five-hundred dollars is a lot of money for me, but I don’t want anyone else to be ripped off,” Trevino said.
