During this time, the stairway and upper landing area will be closed. This project will provide drainage improvements and replace damaged portions of the existing concrete stairway. The project will replace multiple sections of failing stairs with a new 6 ft. wide concrete stairway. New ADA-compliant hand railings and landings will be installed as part of the renovation. Drainage improvements will include replacement of deteriorated storm drain infrastructure and enhancement of the open concrete channel adjacent to the stairway. The improved drainage system will capture and redirect localized surface and subsurface flows to reduce subgrade settling and re-occurrence of current erosion problems.

The work will be done in accordance with applicable environmental and regulatory requirements. Learn about Hiking & Trails Reserve A Picnic Site Located in Ballard on Puget Sound, this popular park offers extraordinary views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. This park features two wetlands, a short loop trail, and restored the northern beach. Golden Gardens offers strolls along a rugged coastline, hikes through forest trails, sunbathing on sandy beaches, fishing from a pier and a boat launch consisting of 300' of shoreline at south end of park. The park is also home to an off-leash area for dogs in the upper northern portion of the park. Dogs are not allowed on beaches, or children's play areas in Seattle parks, per the Seattle Municipal Code. The park was named by and developed by Harry W. Treat in 1907 as an "attraction" at the end of the new electric car lines being built by realtors to induce townfolk to take a "Sunday outing" out of town and through the woods to a picnic or swim at a beach. The Carbine ended at Loyal Way (& 85th) with a steep twisting dusty path down into the park - or those owning a "tin lizzie" could drive down a dusty county road (approximately the present drive entering the upper park from the north) and down to a small parking area on the east side of the railroad tracks, then by foot across the tracks to the beach. At that time the northern half of Meadow Point (named by the Coast Guard) was the site of a shipyard until 1913. To the south the beach curved in along the railroad seaway - all the way to Salmon Bay. The State owns the tidelands south of the park, with boat works and yards by the Bay. Golden Gardens Drainage and Stairway Renovation This project provides drainage improvements and replaces the damaged stairway steps from the lower park area to the dog-off-leash- area. The purpose of the project is to renovate the existing storm drainage system that collects and directs some of the park surface and subsurface drainage flows from the upper road through the mid-parking lot at the dog-off-leash- area to the appropriate drainage area The scope will include replacing damaged steps with a new stairway, and replacing the drainage channel from the top of the steps to the open channel.

In Seattle parks, bonfires are an activity people have enjoyed year round for decades, whether it's to watch a sunset in the summer or to stargaze in the winter. Because of air pollution and other issues, we must limit them to two sites, Golden Gardens Park in Ballard and Alki Park in West Seattle, both of which are long and narrow and can accommodate multiple fire pits (structures that keep fires contained). Acceptable firewood is natural, bare, clean, dry cord-wood. It's against the law and it's unhealthy to burn yard waste, wood with nails or paint, refined lumber of any kind (whether treated or not), construction debris, or anything else one would burn just to dispose of it.
