The fledgling North Carolina-headquartered PDRA (Professional Drag Racers Association) is offering up just what you may be seeking in drag racing: a wide variety and intense breed of Chevy-bodied race cars competing at the very edge of drag racing creativity.Born from the remaining residue of the now-defunct ADRL (American Drag Racing League), the rebooted PDRA has quickly become a competent, cornerstone sanctioning body for eighth-mile professional-level drag racing. Formed, owned, and overseen by a group of hard-core drag racers (namely Mitchell and Jason Scruggs, Tommy Franklin, Roger Henson, and Gene Hector) all of which are direct descendants of this genre of drag racing, the PDRA is for sure now black-tracking.For 2015, its second year in existence, the PDRA will host a 10-event championship point series.Uber-quick door-slammer cars are at the forefront of the PDRA event product with basically three different types of Pro Mod cars entered in separate eliminators being the showcase.

This PDRA Spring Nationals event was certainly no exception with two of the three marquee class winners being by Chevy Camaro-bodied cars.Pro Mod drag racing legend “Tricky” Rickie Smith (who is from North Carolina) prevailed to take the Pro Nitrous title. Todd Tutterow (also from North Carolina) took the Pro Extreme eliminator after he defeated Dubai’s Mustafa Buhumaid in an all-supercharged Camaro final round.While it may take the more traditional drag racing fans some time to absorb and adjust their minds to the math of eighth-mile racing, when in attendance, that comes easily.
