Last Chance Animal Rescue Their annual budgets dwarf ours (see chart), but look at what Last Chance achieved. Caring for thousands of animals, and placing nearly 10,000 of them in loving homes every year -- that's getting a bang for your buck. Last Chance Animal Rescue operates in Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia. We primarily take in cats from more than 40 high-kill shelters in eight states and provide disaster-relief services for small pets. We partner with more than 30 PetSmart and Petco stores in the region and provide full service in-store cat adoptions. Last Chance annually rescues and rehomes some 10,000 pets and since 1999, we’ve provided loving homes for more than 100,000 cats and dogs. Over the next week, we will add pups going to our PUPPYPALOOZA event on Saturday, Sept. 10, to our adoptable dog album: If you miss this event, we will have another one on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Columbia PetSmart from noon to 4 p.m. Last Chance Lends a Hand in Lousiana -

Do you love animals and want to get involved in rescue work? Small Miracles has several volunteer opportunities to fit various levels of commitment. We are currently seeking volunteers to grow our foster home network. Fostering is a rewarding experience where you temporarily house animals in need in your own home until they are ready for adoption. Foster animals include pregnant dogs/cats, nursing dogs/cats and their litters, dogs/cats recovering from injuries or dogs/cats in need of socialization. We recommend having a separate area in your home to care for foster pets; a spare bedroom, bathroom or laundry room works great. The shelter provides all medical care and dry food.
Foster homes provide wet food, litter for the kitties, bedding and daily care of the animals. Supplies you purchase to care for foster animals may be tax deductible. We are also seeking volunteers for shelter and partner pet store operations. Volunteers are needed for cleaning cages, walking dogs, facilitating adoptions and showing dogs at pet stores on weekends. Due to insurance regulations, volunteers must be at least 18 years old. To fill out a foster/volunteer application, visit the Volunteer page. Small Miracles offers low-cost microchipping for your cat or dog with HomeAgain. Cats and dogs adopted from the shelter can receive the microchip, implantation and lifetime registration with no annual fees for a one-time cost of $30. We also offer microchipping for all other animals in the community for $40. Microchips do not hurt your pet, do not require surgery and never wear out. They are inserted with a routine shot between the shoulder blades. If your pet ever becomes lost and is brought to an animal control facility, shelter or veterinarian, your pet will be scanned for a chip.
