Delta Shower Faucet Brass Ring

When water begins to drip from the spout on your single handle Delta faucet, the valve seat and springs beneath the ball valve inside the faucet body have become worn. Tightening the handle screw or the brass adjusting ring might stop the leak temporarily, but you must replace the valve seats and springs to stop the leak permanently. Make sure to carry the worn seats and springs with you when shopping for the replacement parts. Turn off the hot and cold water supplies beneath your sink. Turn on the Delta faucet to allow the water to drain from the faucet line. Pry the screw cover from the top of the handle with a flat-blade screwdriver, exposing the handle screw. Remove the handle screw with a Phillips screwdriver. Your faucet may have a small set screw near the bottom of the handle along the back or front that holds the handle to the faucet. Insert a 1/8-inch hex key to loosen the set screw before pulling the handle off the faucet and exposing the cap. Look inside the cap for the brass adjusting ring surrounding the nylon cam if applicable.
Use needle-nose pliers to rotate the ring counterclockwise to remove it. Wrap a towel around the cap. Fit tongue-and-groove pliers around the towel and cap. Turn the cap counterclockwise to remove it. Do not apply a lot of force when attempting to remove the cap because you can bend it out of shape. If the cap will not turn, soak a rag in white vinegar and wrap it around the cap. Let the rag sit for about 15 to 20 minutes to let it break up mineral deposits in the cap threads. Grab the stem of the ball valve. Pull the ball valve from the body of the faucet. Pulling the ball valve from the faucet pulls the cam and the packing ring from the faucet to expose the seats and springs. Insert the end of the small screwdriver or hex key into the seat and spring. Tilt the screwdriver or hex key as you pull it from the faucet body, so the tip of the screwdriver or hex key grabs the seat and spring and removes them. Use the same steps to remove the remaining seat and spring. Insert the narrow end of the new spring into the new rubber seat.
Thread the seat and spring onto the screwdriver or hex key. Make sure the spring faces the end of the screwdriver or hex key. Place the tip of the screwdriver or hex key into the seat and spring opening in the body of the faucet. Slide the new seat and spring down the screwdriver or hex key and into the seat opening. Remove the screwdriver or hex key, and push the new seat and spring into the faucet with your finger. Repeat this step to install the new seat and spring into the remaining seat and spring opening in the faucet. Replace the ball valve into the faucet. Make sure the small slot in the valve lines up with the small tab in the faucet body. Place the nylon cam on top of the ball valve, making sure you line up the tabs on the side of the cam with the slots in the body of the faucet. Place the packing ring around the top of the cam. Screw the brass adjusting ring into the faucet body over the cam and packing ring. Twist the cap back on to the faucet body, and tighten it by hand. Replace the faucet handle by reversing the steps you used to remove it.
