Maintenance services for the North Coast District are carried out by DownerMouchel under a Road Asset Management Contract. In 2013, DownerMouchel was awarded a 5-year contract to provide routine and programmed maintenance services across the district. The road asset management contract for the North Coast District provides routine maintenance on the state-controlled Road Network in the local council areas of Moreton Bay Regional Council, Sunshine Coast Council and Noosa Council. It provides asset management and programmed maintenance services in all of those council areas as well as the Somerset Council area. The road asset maintenance contract in the North Coast District will deliver approximately $140 million in roadworks during its 5-year life.
The following types of maintenance activities are covered under the contract:Replace 5 Ton Ac Compressor It is important to note that to ensure the best value for the community, the department prioritises maintenance work with safety issues given the highest priority and regular maintenance activities such as litter and graffiti removal, mowing and vegetation clearing, given a lower priority.Patio Furniture Dropshippers The department's maintenance contractors regularly patrol roads to identify any potholes and undertake repairs as necessary. Pug Puppies For Sale In WaPothole repairs are based on a safety priority, with consideration given to the location of the potholes within traffic lanes and traffic volumes. Usually, the largest potholes under heaviest traffic are repaired first.
Extended rain means potholing is sometimes unavoidable, and after a rain event it can take time for the road to recover from saturation point. Temporary pothole repairs are usually carried out using a cold pre-mix material. A permanent repair involves excavating the pothole and filling it with a hot asphalt mix, which requires the road surface and sub-surface to be completely dry and the fill must be laid in fine weather. To report a pothole, call 13 19 40 with the necessary details of the road and location of the pothole. Even with specialised design and construction systems to ensure longevity of the road network, there are some instances where sections of road surfaces can suffer deterioration. In this situation, the department carries out road rehabilitation works. These works are also prioritised based on safety and traffic volumes. Work is scheduled once funding becomes available. When road resurfacing and reseals are planned there is often a need to carry out pre-treatment works to prepare the road for new surfacing.
These pre-treatment works include patching potholes, repairing cracks, and smoothing road shoulders and road edges. As a general guide, mowing alongside state-controlled roads is carried out 4-5 times per year, which is usually sufficient to maintain line of sight and signage visibility for motorists. However, vegetation growth varies according to seasons and weather conditions. A general rule of thumb is to mow a 3.5m section from the roadside edge, which allows a safe line of sight for roadside furniture (signs, guideposts, and so on), driveway access points and other intersecting roads. Mowing does not extend all the way to property boundary fences. There may be times when mowing cycles on highly trafficked roads such as the Bruce Highway or Sunshine Motorway must be increased, which in the interim, can divert resources and funding away from other less travelled roads. The department is committed to declared weed management across the district. We prioritise weed maintenance within available funding, with a commitment to controlling Class 1 and Class 2 declared weed species, as detailed in the Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management) Act 2002.
A list of Class 1 and Class 2 declared weed species can be found at the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries website. Our maintenance program covers high priority Class 1 and Class 2 weeds. Due to competing funding priorities, species outside of Class 1 and Class 2 are unfortunately not able to be treated in this program. The department shares the community's frustration about graffiti and has implemented several strategies to reduce graffiti attacks on state-owned assets. Graffiti is illegal, and the cost of removing it is high and the process time-consuming. Offensive graffiti is removed as a priority, while 'tags' and non-obscene graffiti are added to the routine maintenance program and cleared when crews are next in that area. To have an 'immediate removal' policy for non-obscene graffiti would require a redirection of maintenance funding away from funding for road safety improvements. Roadside litter is an ongoing problem throughout Queensland. We carry out regular litter collection on all state-controlled roads as part of routine maintenance, as well as conducting additional maintenance where required.
We receive a large number of requests for maintenance activities across the North Coast District. Requests are prioritised and undertaken within available funding to ensure a safe and trafficable road network, and endeavour to meet community expectations. We are committed to providing the community with information about its maintenance activities. Residents within the immediate vicinity of road surface treatment works will informed via a letterbox drop. For more information, please call 5451 7055. Please note: All works are dependent on the weather. If your TomTom device is not working properly, a reset will usually solve this. Select your device below for specific instructions.
