Whether you have a home office or a large-scale organisation we know how important it is to ensure your office provides a professional but welcoming atmosphere.Engineered wood flooring is an attractive and versatile alternative to solid wood flooring. It is composed of multiple layers of timber that are glued together. Overall, the planks are much thinner than solid wood and have greater stability due to the layered materials.

Generally, this type of flooring is made up of three layers and is often confused with laminate and vinyl floors due to its appearance. The layers consist of: • Hardwood veneer (lamella) – This is the topmost, visible section of the flooring. It consists of a thin layer of timber (2mm-4mm) which can vary in styles, colour and patterns. • Core board – This is made up of either one or two layers of plywood, or a combination of fibres, which are bonded together under intense pressure to create a dense insulating material. The layers of timber run in different directions which reduce the opportunity for buckling and twisting. One of the material’s main advantages is its durability, which it owes to crisscrossing layers of wood, which offer a uniform structure. This helps the overall stability of the material and helps to reduce any potential movement during seasonal temperature changes. If your property suffers from significant changes in temperature, then engineered wood would be preferential over using solid hardwood, particularly in rooms where moisture occurs such as bathrooms.

Engineered wood flooring ranges in a variety of styles which hold the same quality as solid wood flooring. Oak is one of the most popular choices, however, you may want to consider the style of flooring which may best suit the ambience and brightness of your room. The timber also benefits from the traditional tongue and groove interlocking system or the more convenient click-lock system, which is ideal for easy installation using the “floating” method. There is no need for adhesives as the planks simply click together, and this type of flooring is ideal for areas of your property where solid wood may not be suitable. Follow the steps below: • Step 1 – Install underlay. Place down the first row of planks ensuring that the tongue is facing inwards towards the centre of the room. • Step 2 – Work across the room and connect the pieces together. Make sure that you leave a 15mm gap for movement. This can be covered using a beading rail. • Step 3 – You may want to use adhesive or use the “floating” method so that the flooring can easily be lifted or replaced.

• Step 4 – If necessary, use a Jigsaw to cut your planks to the required size. Take good care to ensure the planks are lined up with a good 15mm expansion gap. • Step 5 - As you work your way across the room, tap each plank to ensure that is snug and fully connected. • Step 6 – Complete the flooring by connecting the last piece in with a hammer. Apply the finish trims around the border and door frames. Engineered wood is perfect for conservatories, basement areas or for layering on top of underfloor heating systems. Wood has natural thermal properties, so this type of material would be perfect for a cost-effective way of reducing heat transfer. Engineered wood flooring has similar properties to solid wood flooring as the material has a long lifespan and can be sanded approximately five times to retain a quality finish. Here at Poshflooring.co.uk we have a wide selection of quality engineered flooring, perfect for any home and any budget. If you are looking for flooring which is durable and can withstand the wear and tear in your busy home, take a look at our selection.
