They just wish the residence they call "a work of art" weren't so prone to flooding. The three-bedroom home, whose two-story windows overlook a terrace stretching out of the living room, has been inundated by a nearby river seven times since the Tarantinos purchased it.

Rather than wait for flood No. 8,...A century-old house in Glencoe that Frank Lloyd Wright designed for his attorney is coming on the market next week for the first time in nearly 50 years. Set at the edge of a wooded ravine with a view out over the Lake Shore Country Club, the five-bedroom house still has nearly all the original details Wright designed for both its interior and exterior. They include slatted wooden light sconces and screens between rooms, an outdoor fireplace on a rooftop deck (a rarity in Wright's designs) and even a stylized flagpole that Wright repurposed from an older building. "It's totally satisfying to the eye," said Sonia Bloch, who bought the house on Sylvan Road in 1967 with her husband, Ted. The home was vacant at the time and the Blochs rehabbed it extensively. (See a selection of photos at bottom.)Ted Bloch died last year, and Sonia Bloch, who is 89, will list the home for $1.9 million July 5 with Pamela Tilton of Jameson Sotheby's International Realty.

Completed in 1916, the three-story house on three quarters of an acre was originally the home of Sherman and Elizabeth Booth. He was Wright's attorney, and she was legislative chairman at the Illinois Equal Suffrage Association, which was instrumental in Illinois becoming the first state east of the Mississippi River to grant women the right to vote. The house was the largest of six Wright designed in Ravine Bluffs,a 15-acre subdivision planned by Sherman Booth that was supposed to grow to about 30 houses.Initially, the Booths' own house was going to be far larger, said John Eifler, an architect who has restored many Wright buildings and lives in one he restored in Ravine Bluffs. Wright drew up plans for a Booth mansion set apart from the other houses, but it didn't get built, Eifler said.Bloch said it's believed Sherman Booth speculated in the gold market, lost quite a bit of money and "had to build a smaller house." A stable and a gardener's cottage for the planned estate were already complete, and the Booths had Wright incorporate both of them into the new 4,000-square-foot home.

In the newer, three-story section of the home are the living room with a trademark Wright fireplace of brick at the center, a large window-wrapped room close to the ravine's edge, three second-floor bedrooms and a third-floor room that opens onto a rooftop deck with a brick outdoor fireplace."I don't know anywhere else where Wright built a rooftop like that," Eifler said, "but look at why he did it: You're looking out at treetops and a golf course." The woodsy and secluded Ravine Bluffs setting is a big piece of the Booth home's appeal, said Jamie Roth, a Coldwell Banker agent who sold one of the development's other homes in 2012. "Its beautiful and tranquil there," Roth said, "It's a little hidden enclave, but you can walk to Glencoe's beach, train station and downtown in a few minutes." The kitchen and four full baths need updating, Tilton said, but the Blochs have carefully maintained the property. Early on, they replaced a crumbling garage with a carport whose walls feature details that Wright designed for the garage.
