How Much Does It Cost To Install A Dishwasher From Lowes

Michael Kasdin knows a lemon when he sees one, and he's pretty sure his year-old KitchenAid dishwasher fits the description.Less than three months after paying Lowe's $708.13 for the appliance and installation in April 2011, it stopped working. At the time, the dishwasher was under warranty, so Kasdin called Lowe's, which sent a technician. Kasdin said the technician replaced the electrical panel and the machine sprang back to life. But the sparkling dishes did not last long.In October, the dishwasher stopped working again. Another technician went to Kasdin's Lake Bluff home, this time to install a new adjuster.Weeks later, the dishwasher broke for a third time, repeatedly shutting off midcycle. Another technician was dispatched and found that the pump motor had been damaged.By then, Kasdin was convinced the dishwasher was a dud. Further proof came in April, when it began taking forever to complete its cycle. While it was supposed to take 120 minutes to wash dishes, the machine was taking more than four hours to get the job done.

Again, Kasdin called Lowe's, and again, Lowe's sent a repairman."The diagnostics did not reveal any problem; however, when my wife explained that the cycle was taking four hours, the repairman said it was probably a lemon," Kasdin said. The technician said he didn't have four hours to watch the dishwasher wash the dishes but promised to file paperwork so that Lowe's would replace the machine, Kasdin said."That was mid-April," he said.He heard nothing back from the repairman or Lowe's.On subsequent calls, Lowe's representatives told Kasdin that there was nothing they could do because the one-year warranty had expired. Kasdin argued that that wasn't fair — the last repairman had visited his house in mid-April, before the warranty expired, and left without fixing the machine.Stuck with a dishwasher that didn't work and a warranty that was no longer valid, Kasdin emailedWhat's Your Problem? They are going out of their way to not live up to their obligations here, and it isn't right," he said.

The dishwasher, he said, is a necessity. When Kasdin bought it, his wife and live-in mother-in-law were both going through chemotherapy, he said. The couple also has three young children, including a newborn."I don't want to sound like I'm whining, but this is not a luxury item. We need it," Kasdin said. "I kind of have to laugh, it's so ridiculous."He said that each time he calls Lowe's, he's told KitchenAid won't pay for a replacement."Well, that's between KitchenAid and them, not me," he said. "I bought the dishwasher from Lowe's."The Problem Solver called Lowe's spokeswoman Karen Cobb and described Kasdin's situation. On Friday, a Lowe's representative called Kasdin and offered to replace the dishwasher. On Saturday, Kasdin and his wife visited the Lowe's in Vernon Hills and picked out a Bosch dishwasher that cost almost exactly the same amount as their broken KitchenAid.There were, however, some issues.Kasdin said the Lowe's store made him pay upfront for the $584.10 replacement dishwasher."

I was told that I would get a credit for the old one when they take it back," he said Monday.

We stand behind the products and services we sell," Cobb said.Kasdin also received a call from the manager of the Vernon Hills store, who apologized for his store's response to his earlier complaints."He that said someone should have taken a step back, looked at this and used their discretion to solve the problem," Kasdin said. "He is now personally handling this, and he said that he will be in regular contact with me until it is resolved."
