SUPPLEMENT FOR THE HEALTH OF YOUR PET.Nearly 70 dogs rescued from 'unhealthy' conditions at Hanover ho - NBC12 - WWBT - Richmond, VA News On Your Side Nearly 70 dogs rescued from 'unhealthy' conditions at Hanover home An online ad for puppies for sale was what triggered allegations of animal cruelty against a Hanover County breeder, according to court documents.34 puppies and 34 adult dogs were rescued from a home on Connie Hall Road in Montpelier. According to court documents, when a potential buyer stopped by the breeder's property last month, they were shocked at what they saw.Dogs appeared malnourished, and were covered in feces and urine, court documents state. The buyer also noted "a large wheelbarrow…filled with animal feces," and the porch where the puppies were kept was also matted with feces, court documents state. Despite the conditions the buyer purchased a Labrador puppy. However when they got the dog home and took it to a vet, it was diagnosed with "hundreds of round worms, hook worms and Coccida," according to court documents.
It was then the buyer called animal control, who checked up on the tip and discovered the sickly puppies."Based on their quick actions, we were able to rescue these dogs and get them out of the conditions," said Sgt. James Cooper with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.Court documents also show two more animal cruelty complaints were made against the breeder earlier this year. The Commonwealth's Attorney is working to determine what charges will be filed against the owner of the dogs."Once we place charges on the individuals, once it goes to court and they are found guilty, hopefully we will retain possession of these dogs and we can put them up for adoption and open it up to the community," said Sgt. Cooper.Meantime the sheriff's office says the shelter needs donations.Hanover County Animal Control and Shelter welcomes donations of: Dry dog and cat food Canned dog and cat food Towels, sheets, blankets and soft mats  Newspaper (bundled)  Raw hides and other chew treats  New or used collars and leashes Grooming brushes and shampoo  Cat litter  Animal beds  Formula for young kittens and puppies  Kurdanda bed - order online Anyone with further information about this incident is asked to contact the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at (804) 365-6140.Colleen Quigley NBC12Copyright 2016
