A true one-off, Philippe Starck is one of most influential designers of modern times. Born in 1949, for Philippe Starck design runs in the family. The son of an aeronautical engineer, it wasn’t long until he was enrolled at the prestigious École Camondo design school in Paris before being appointed the Art Director for Pierre Cardin at the age of just 20. Having established his name, throughout the 1980's and 90's Stark embraced the radically changing fashions with many designs characterised by his tongue in cheek style. While more recently his focus has shifted towards longevity and durability, all of his designs still exhibit that same off-the-wall approach.
