(MARS) MARS is the first rescue group devoted exclusively to Miniature Australian Shepherds.  Our goal is caring for, evaluating, and finding new homes for Mini Aussies in need and educating people about these wonderful dogs.  MARS assists Mini Aussies of all ages, large and small.  We are an all-volunteer non-profit organization that relies exclusively on donations and fundraising to support our efforts. We invite you to learn more about our services and activities here on our website. If you'd like more information, please contact us. We are happy to support you. Mini Australian/American Shepherds have increased in popularity resulting in Mini Aussies turning up in shelters, on Craigslist, and with rescue groups across the United States.
In response to the increasing number of dogs in need, MARS was created to develop a nationwide organization that supports Mini Aussies, their human families, and the many volunteers that want to help. In 2004, MARS was incorporated as an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. In January of 2005, MARS took in its first rescue Mini Aussie.  As a national group, we encourage cooperation between people in different areas who are helping Mini Aussies.  In the years that we've been rehoming Mini Aussies, we have placed over 1,000 dogs into forever homes. On this site you will find general information about the breed and ASCA®.
We are very proud of this breed and our club made up of dedicated Aussie fanciers. The Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA®) was established as the parent club for the breed in 1957 and incorporated as a non-profit corporation. Increasing interest in competition led to the development of merit programs. These programs today provide certification and titles in Stockdog, Conformation, Obedience, Tracking, and Agility as well as recognition to the top Juniors. These programs increased ASCA®'s role as a service organization to much more than a registry. ASCA®-registered Aussies can earn titles in every phase of competition as well as entry into ASCA®'s Hall of Fame which is reserved for outstanding sires, dams, and kennels. ASCA® has over 100 Affiliate Clubs internationally providing sanctioned shows and trials for ASCA® registered Aussies.   Click here to find out more about ASCA Membership and Tracking Numbers and Service Memberships Members Only System Rollout!

The Australian Shepherd Club of America will not condone the policy of any individual, group, or proposed legislation which advocates restricting the breeding, showing, training, and/or exhibiting of the Australian Shepherd or any other domesticated animal. The Australian Shepherd Club of American also does not condone the proposed restrictions to the practice of tail docking or removal of dewclaws for cosmetic or health reasons. We find this policy to be a detriment to the welfare of the Australian Shepherd breed as a whole and an infringement on the rights of the owners, breeders, trainers, and exhibitors of all domesticated animals. The Australian Shepherd Club of America will educate its members of any proposed legislation which may ill affect the welfare of the breed and its guardians, the breeders, owners, trainers, and exhibitors.
Judging Australian Shepherds with Tails (In Countries with Tail Docking Bans) The Miniature Australian Shepherd, North American Shepherd, North American Miniature Australian Shepherd, Miniature American Shepherd, and/or Toy Australian Shepherd breeds are not recognized as a variety of Australian Shepherd by ASCA. The club considers such dogs to be a distinct and separate breed and will not accept them into its registry. "Our bylaws state that ASCA's purpose is: 'To encourage members and breeders to accept one breed standard for the Australian Shepherd as approved by the Club as the only standard of excellence by which Australian Shepherds shall be judged.' It is the mission of this club ASCA and the mission of its members to preserve the breed rather than change it."
