After dozens read Vinnie's story on Facebook a new owner has been found. The note left with the kitten went on to say: "I am totally loveable, enjoying long cuddles/snuggles." The County and the New Jersey Tree Foundation worked collaboratively to receive the free trees from the NJ Department of Environmental Protection Division of Community Forestry. “Planting trees throughout the County enhances the aesthetics of our communities, makes our neighborhoods more inviting and, most importantly, strengthens the health of our local environment,” DiVincenzo said in a press release.
“Our partnership with the New Jersey Tree Foundation is an example of how our residents benefit when government and non-profit organizations share their resources. This program also provides jobs to individuals who are re-entering society after incarceration and is a positive example of what can be accomplished when we all work together,” he added. “We are very happy to have these 138 new trees here. This planting today is just the beginning, now we have to insure that we take care of them,” said George Prell, Brookdale Park Conservancy Chairman. “We thank the County and the New Jersey Tree Foundation for their partnership to make this day possible,” he added. Crews from the Essex County Department of Public Works and the New Jersey Tree Foundation worked together to plant trees in Essex County Brookdale Park. A variety of species have been planted throughout the County, including maple, cherry, crabapple and locust trees. The County has worked with the Foundation to plant trees in seven municipalities: Bloomfield, East Orange, Glen Ridge, Irvington, Maplewood, Montclair and Newark.
Over the last several years, approximately 1,800 trees have been planted throughout Essex County through this program.
