I highly recommend this product to all of my customers and will continue to do so. There is a reason they make bones for different levels of chewing. *** Update: When we posted this on Monday, w...e never dreamed it would get the feedback it has gotten! We are so grateful for the discussion this post has started, though we don't have enough hours in the day to answer all of the many awesome questions and comments. (Feel free to read the other comments though – we've answered the same questions a few times throughout.) We will be addressing some of the comments in a public post (or two) over the next few days, so if you don't already, follow our page to get the big picture. Spam and profanity will be deleted. And now for the post: A lot of the client dogs we work with are leash pullers. For most of our clients, their first solution – before they come to us – is to use a traditional harness. After all, the dogs are not pulling on their necks as much and choking themselves, so it must be better... right? On the contrary, while they aren't choking themselves anymore, a harness actually HELPS them pull; this is precisely what they are designed to do.

(Think working dogs, like sled dogs!) If you are rollerblading or skateboarding with your dog, use a harness. If they are a working dog and you want them to pull weight, use a harness. However, if you're just trying to walk your family dog who pulls, use a tool that can actually communicate with them and keep both you and the dog safe. Use a tool that tells the dog "this way, not that way." A flat collar is fine if a dog doesn't pull; if they do, it shouldn't be more than a glorified ID bracelet. A gentle leader can be effective very quickly, but it can also do spinal damage. A choke chain can be a death wish for a puller. A front clip harness can be effective, but it can also hinder a dog's natural gait. A martingale is good; a prong collar – when used properly – is even better. A remote collar is perhaps the least invasive and most subtle form of communication out there in our opinion. That's like telling your dog "You want to pull? Let me make it easier for you!" it's precisely what the tool was created for.

And when your dog is pulling and leading you on a regular walk (and you don't want them to), that doesn't do anyone any favors. In fact, inverting this leadership paradigm can lead to all kinds of behavioral issues down the road. P.S. Training tools are great, but the most important tool of all is the RELATIONSHIP you have with your dog. If that's out of balance, no training tools will help you. But... that's another post for another time. Today's post is just to talk about the what and why of specific tools. © Rolling Thunder Silver LabsSilver factored black female is available and looking for her new family!Rolling Thunder Silver LabsZeus with his new happy family!Rolling Thunder Silver Labs*ATTENTION NEW PUPPY PARENTS* Please take the time to read this article on spaying and neutering your puppies.Spay Neuter And Joint DiseaseRolling Thunder Silver LabsOn his way home to Loudonville!Rolling Thunder Silver LabsGunner already getting to work with his new family!Rolling Thunder Silver LabsGunner in his new home in PA.
