Many people seem to acquire a Saint Bernard without fully appreciating just how large an impact they have on a home. Saint Bernards are intelligent, affectionate giants, who bring boundless love and humor to any household, but they also drool, they shed, and they want lots of attention. Unfortunately some Saint Bernards wind up living on a chain, or in a small cage outside. Saint Bernards are NOT "outside dogs", especially not in the south! We are dedicated to educating and assisting owners of such dogs, rescuing those we can, treating them for any health issues, training them to be inside dogs, and finding them great homes where they will get the TLC and care they deserve. Many of the Saint Bernards we take in have multiple medical issues including heartworm disease, skin infections from mange or flea infestation, intestinal parasites, malnutrition, etc. Some have never been inside of a house before, so they need to learn not to be afraid AND not to pee inside! Fortunately Saint Bernards are smart and VERY motivated to please people who treat them well.

But there is a lot of work and expense involved in getting these dogs ready to be placed for adoption. She decided that the young children in her home were too much for her. Maya started barking, hiding in her create when they came around and just was getting more and more agitated with them. She is good with all dogs and cats and needs a home with teenagers or no kids at all.
