Welcome to Blue River Weimaraners I do not have another litter planned at this time. I am a breeder of high quality blue and gray Weimaraners in Northern California.  I strive for excellent quality by starting with an outstanding foundation bitch and improving on her qualities by selecting complimentary studs.  I believe in the Weimaraner that has both correct conformation as well as a strong hunt drive.  If you are looking to hunt or show, these dogs have the ability to perform for you and should easily bring you a bird or a ribbon (or both!).  If you are interested in performance events, they should excel in the obedience, rally, and agility rings with ease.  If you’re just looking for a pet, they can hog a couch or bed like the best of them.  Whatever you’re looking for in a four legged family member, we have a match for you. Through learning about you and your lifestyle and through careful obvservation of personalities and traits during the first eight weeks of the puppies life, Iwill be able to help match you with the right puppy.

Puppies are AKC/NAHVDA and BWCA (blues only) registered.  Their parents are OFA certified to have good or excellent hips and normal elbows, they have been screened for other health issues (see litter pages for details). We strive to rescue, rehabilitate and place abandoned, neglected or whose families can no longer provide care for them. NCWR attempts to educate prospective and current owners about the breed and responsible pet ownership, while working cooperatively with animal shelters and individuals. While in NCWR care, Weimaraners receive routine medical care, are spayed or neutered and are evaluated by an NCWR volunteer for placement in the most suitable, permanent, loving home. We also offer ongoing assistance to adopting families to help overcome behavioral and training problems. Thinking about adopting a Weimaraner puppy? Like most people, you’ve probably heard time and again that if you have kids, you should adopt a Weimaraner puppy (or, gasp! find a Weimaraner puppy for sale).

The rationale is that an adult shelter dog is an unknown quantity, so buying or adopting a Weimaraner puppy is safer. Puppies eventually can be trained out of this behavior, of course, and there are exceptions to every rule, but generally speaking, an adult Weimaraner (or any adult dog) is much less likely to shred your drapes like coleslaw or function as a “helpful” canine document shredder.So a three-month-old Weimaraner puppy needs to go outside every three hours, a four-month-old needs to go every four hours, and so on.  But if you’re planning on leaving your dog alone during your workday, you’ll definitely want to adopt a full-grown dog, ideally from a Weimaraner rescue that can help you find the right dog for your lifestyle. Let’s bust these myths about adopting a Weimaraner Time to get real: when we ask people what reservations they have about Weimaraner adoption, we hear the same things over and over again.   You CAN find purebred Weimaraners for adoption in an animal shelter or rescue group.

Weimaraners and Weimaraner puppies for adoption are NOT in any way inferior to or different from those for sale. If you want a puppy, you DON’T have to buy a Weimaraner puppy.  Weimaraner puppies ARE available for adoption. Here’s the truth: you absolutely can find a Weimaraner, even a Weimaraner puppy, for adoption in an animal shelter or rescue group.  Think about it: let’s say you buy a Weimaraner puppy for sale by a breeder. But what would happen to your wonderful Weimaraner if, tragically, something happened to you? The lucky person who adopts your Weimaraner would be getting a great dog!  Weimaraner rescue organizations often care for their adoptable dogs in foster homes, which means their foster families will be able to tell you if the Weimaraner you want to adopt is good with other animals or kids, and if he or she is housebroken and knows any basic commands. As you can see, adopting from a rescue organization is likely the very safest way for people with children to add a new Weimaraner to their family!
