A message left with Brighter Dental in Robbinsville was not immediately returned Friday. The lawyer, Scott J. Singer, of Singer Law Practice in Montgomery declined to discuss the issue in detail Friday evening. He did say the Yelp review in question contained "clinical statements that are defamatory." In the June 9 review Lipsky wrote: "I understand that some dentists take a more aggressive stance towards treatment, but the course of action they recommended was extreme and frankly unnecessary. I can't recommend Brighter Dental in Robbinsville because I honestly do not trust them and they refused to treat my jaw pain until the root canals were completed, which was the reason for my visit in the first place." It is the only review for Brighter Dental Care of Robbinsville. The issue concerns jaw pain Lipsky was suffering recently due to clenching her teeth. She moved to Hamilton about six years ago and did not have a local dentist, after seeing one in Lawrence a few years ago.

Hoping for a mouth guard to alleviate the pain, Lipsky went to Brighter Dental for an exam. The dentist suggested over $5,700 worth of dental work, including some root canal procedures. Lipsky said insurance would only cover about $2,400, leaving about $3,300 as an out-of-pocket expense. She had no sensitivity or other teeth issues, just the jaw pain. Lipsky says Brighter Dental wanted to perform the root canal work first, then address the jaw pain. Suspicious, Lipsky sought a second opinion from a root canal specialist in West Windsor. The specialist performed tests on her teeth and found no issues. "He told me they were perfectly healthy," Lipsky said. Of the review, Lipsky said: "It is honest, fair, and I have paperwork to back it up." In a statement, a Yelp spokeswoman said, "Consumers have the right to share their opinions about their truthful experiences with businesses online, which is why businesses rarely use litigation as a response." The spokeswoman said the federal government has begun taking more steps to ensure consumers have protections in place to do so, and Yelp supports them.
