Working with and an incredible ...vendor team, they turned this old steel mill into a glamorous chic party for 350+ guests. Mackenzie had always told her dad that none of the guys she dated gave her butterflies, that is, until Craig came along. So appropriately themed, he proposed in the butterfly garden at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, and their wedding was filled with butterfly stamps on the invitations, a bridal party of their nieces and nephews holding balloons with butterfly cutouts, butterfly flower crowns, and of course, Mackenzie's stunning wing-tipped Sophia Webster shoes. Mackenzie's sister-in-law also surprised her with LIVE butterflies while we were getting ready, making a wish with each one as they fluttered away! It was such an honor being part of such an amazing event, and also being able to witness such joy and love between these two. Congratulations Mackenzie & Craig! <3 Wishing you guys nothing but all the happiness in the world! Her collection varies from classic with clean lines and details to sophisticated hand-embroidered ball gowns.Kleinfeld, the huge bridal emporium in Brooklyn, has been acquired by a newly formed investment concern that plans to restore it to its former glory as the busiest wedding-dress outlet in the nation.

For decades, the store at the corner of 82d Street and Fifth Avenue in Bay Ridge has been the destination for anxious brides seeking the perfect outfit for their wedding day, and on Saturdays in the spring hundreds of families have been drawn to its crowded showroom. But in recent years, it has seen its market chipped away by other boutiques, chains and even Internet outlets. Investors in the new corporation taking over Kleinfeld, KBC Operating Corporation, declined to reveal how much they had paid for the 30,000-square-foot store, which will retain the Kleinfeld name. But Mara Urshel, who has been with Kleinfeld for more than a year and will serve as its president under the deal, characterized the price as ''very favorable.'' ''We bought all the assets of the company,'' she added. ''We feel comfortable we can turn it around without having too much baggage to bear.'' The group is headed by Wayne M. Rogers, the actor who played Trapper John in the television series ''M*A*S*H'';

Clay Hamner, a North Carolina investor, and Ronald Rothstein, an investor from New York. They are buying the store at a time of upheaval in the $35-billion-a-year bridal market. Many small boutiques fear a loss of business to Internet retailers offering bridal purchases on line, while others have been pinched by such rapidly expanding companies as the publicly traded David's Bridal, which sells a broad assortment of gowns at low prices. Ms. Urshel said she did not fear such competition, noting that Kleinfeld offers one of the world's largest selections of designer gowns and has cultivated a loyal following for decades. Although plans have not been finalized, she said that the investment group would look to expand its bridal holdings in the future by buying other bridal boutiques, possibly placing them under the Kleinfeld banner. Ms. Urshel said the company was also in the process of designing a Web site that would outline the store's selection, though she added that most purchases would still require a visit to the store.

''Any store that sells bridal dresses or bridal accessories is competition, but there is no one that has the selection or alterations ability that Kleinfeld's has,'' she explained. ''Brides come here from all over the world -- Saturday we had one from Ethiopia and a whole family from Mexico City. Many people go nowhere else but Kleinfeld's.'' While storied, Kleinfeld has been rocked by financial trouble for several years. Founded as a furrier in 1941 by Isadore Kleinfeld, the company turned exclusively to wedding wear in 1968. Mrs. Kleinfeld's daughter, Hedda, and her husband, Jack Schachter, sold the company to Michel Zelnik nine years ago. In 1995, as other stores selling wedding dresses fell to competitive pressure, Kleinfeld was dominating the local bridal market and claimed annual sales of $30 million. Dozens of brides would stand outside its doors in the morning, eagerly awaiting the store's opening, then sit again in anticipation of their appointment with a bridal consultant who would offer them a choice of up to 800 wedding dresses.

Mothers who had bought their wedding dresses at Kleinfeld took their daughters there, often from distant places. And during the three days a year on which the company offered wedding gowns for sale, lines of future brides would snake around the block. But by 1997 the company's sales had fallen to less than $20 million, and a controlling interest in its assets was acquired by Gordon Brothers Capital, the New York affiliate of the Boston-based retail adviser Gordon Brothers Group. The acquirer installed Eugene Kohn, a turnaround specialist, to reorganize and run the company. He hired Ms. Urshel to fill a senior management position in 1998, but sales did not begin to stabilize until June of that year and turned around only in September, when Ms. Urshel said there was a 30 percent increase. Ms. Urshel said the company could turn a profit by as early as next year, reversing a decline in sales that has left it profitless for the last four. Kleinfeld, which employs about 150 people, had only $10 million in sales last year, but now carries no interest-bearing debt, she said.

The first order of business will be to breathe life into the store in Bay Ridge. Kleinfeld will be redesigned to spotlight various categories, from European designers to headpieces and veils. An expanded entry salon will be constructed, as well as a special lounge for fathers and grooms, according to a company press release. Although no categories of merchandise will be added, many existing ones -- from bridesmaids' dresses and shoes to evening wear and bridal accessories -- will be expanded, the company said. Kleinfeld is also expanding both the assortment and number of sizes it offers, with an eye toward developing a strong contemporary line. Ms. Urshel said the store's biggest problem -- poor management -- had already been addressed. ''There was no management here before,'' she said. ''Every employee had their own idea and was flying on their own. They were also taking customer abuse, through no fault of their own, and had developed some defenses. ''We intend to become very important in the bridal industry,'' Ms. Urshel added.
