Built in 1895 as a wedding present for the Mayors' Daughter, this historical home is one of the few houses still standing built before the turn of the century. Over the past 120 years, the home has seen a number of owners and renovations (ours included) and is now a completely renovated and lovingly restored Pioneer Guest home with all the modern conveniences of today, yet still retaining much of its original charm and character. The Apple Cottage is registered on the National Register of Historical Homes.Normally, each year from May through October this cottage becomes home to the talented Directors and Designers from The Utah Shakespearean Festival and is not available to rent. However, this year for the first time we are excited to have it available for those of you wishing to visit Cedar City in the summer. Look for the listing to be on this site soon. Now, more about The Apple Cottage: The house has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 living areas, and a huge country kitchen. Every room has been lovingly decorated with quality furnishings unique to each room and the time period it represents. "The Parlour" is lovely bedroom with bay windows located at the front of the house with a very comfortable sleigh double bed, quality linens and a working Pioneer Wood Burning Stove. It is richly decorated in warm shades of earth browns and tans, with just the right amount of whimsy. You might find our escapee bird.

The "Robin's Nest" is a twin bedded room in the softest shade of Robin's egg blue with warm chocolate brown and tan accents. There are two twin beds in this room, a desk area plus a relaxing reading corner complete with a selection of books to keep you busy. Vintage art and a 1920's Puff Silk Quilt add just the right touch of yesterday to this lovely room.The "Master" bedroom is quite large and private, located at the back of the house, and has a wonderfully comfortable Queen Bed, sitting area and its own attached bathroom with double sink vanities, stall shower and toilet area. The other bathroom (called "The Pippin Bath" for its bright green apple color) is very large and boasts the original claw foot tub for long soaks after a day of exploring the unique southwest. Please note, this is "soaking" bathtub and not a stand up shower. There is a hand held shower nozzle for rinsing off after that long, luxurious soak but it is not a regular shower stall. Some folks need to know this :-). In addition, there are two vanity/make up areas, a pedestal sink and toilet nook.

All luxury linens and bath amenities are included, even luxurious bathrobes and slippers for lounging. The two "sitting rooms" are comfortable and allow guests to use separate areas for conversations, games or TV viewing. The first Living room has a Love Seat that converts'to a twin size hide a bed accommodating another guest ~ for a total of 7.The "Den" area of the house is open to the huge country kitchen, allowing for a large number of folks to congregate in a combined area. Whether you are watching TV from the couch or sitting around the kitchen table over a good meal, this area is the heart of our home and is very comfortable and charming in its feel and decor- Apples of course(URL HIDDEN)(URL HIDDEN) The kitchen is completely equipped for the gourmet chef and is well stocked with basic kitchen staples, spices and supplies. There is a full size refrigerator, stove & oven, microwave, dishwasher, toaster and coffee maker plus a large collection of many useful small kitchen appliances.

(crock pot, waffle maker, mixer, blender, etc.)A complete laundry room with a washer & dryer, ironing board and iron is available for your complimentary use. There is a covered back patio with table and chairs, bar b q grill and fire pit. All firewood is provided for your convenience. The front porch has two chairs so you can sit and watch the world go by, as the house is located in the Historical Downtown area of Cedar City. Many unique shops and restaurants are located on Main St. ~ just across the street. If you are craving a bit of exercise, a number of walking trails are just steps away from the cottage, as well as the local park and library.Whether you are looking for a home base in which to tour the many outstanding National Parks that surround us (Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon, Arches, CanyonLands, Lake Powell, Cedar Breaks) or are heading to the slopes at BrianHead (35 minutes away) for a day of skiing, snowboarding, or fun in the snow, a stay in our historical Apple Cottage will leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed.....and wanting to return again and again!

It becomes housing for The Shakespeare Festival starting in May tpork and is unavailable except for a few weeks in July so get your reservation in early if you want to stay at The Cider House. lll,okWhen you stay at one of our cottages we hope that you will explore the 1/3 acre of beautiful gardens, shady patios and the hidden nooks and crannies. Perhaps you'll want to sit by the fire pit, roast marshmallows and gaze at the stars. Find a quiet, shady spot to read a book or take a nap in our Aero chair. Dine alfresco by our new water feature ~ a rustic sheep stock and and farmhouse water pump while letting the sound of the splashing water relax you. If you are a guest during the growing season, we invite you to sample any of the veggies from our garden (think fresh juicy, ripe tomatoes, salad fixings, broccoli, squash, beans, peppers and whatever else strikes our taste buds).

Enjoy fruit from our famous Apple tree in the fall, as well as cherry, pear and apricot trees. We also have grapes and strawberries ripe for the picking during the summer if the birds don't beat you first! Winter guests often enjoy building a snowman in the yard, or tossing a few snow balls around. You can go sledding on the hill by the high school right in town. BrianHead resort is a short 35 minutes away with full on amenities for skiing, snowboarding, tubing and snow mobile excursions. Utah does have incredible snow so come and visit us in the winter too! Whatever season finds you our guests, we invite you to treat the home and property as your own.....because as our motto says: "Here, You're Family"!We hope to greet every guest upon their arrival. It's important for us to know who is staying in our cottage, and for you to know that we care about our property and your experience while our guest. We do not live at the property but are less than a mile away and are usually available to answer questions, give directions and make recommendations if desired.

We can be as available or not depending on your own preference. We want you to think of our cottage as your own private retreat while you are here. And anything we can do to enhance your experience is our pleasure. Additionally, there is local bus service should you be without a car and need to travel farther than our historical downtown area. There is also a shuttle bus that operates during the winter that goes directly to Brian Head Ski Resort in the event you prefer not to drive the 35 minutes it takes to get there or if driving in new snow is not for you. Cedar City is the perfect town for walking and exploring it's charming neighborhoods, and the cottage is in the perfect location to do just that.Cedar City is a small town by many standards yet provides just about everything you might need while on vacation. And our cottage is located right in the heart of the downtown historical area where you can easily walk to everything.

A city bus can take you to the outlying areas ( Walmartfor example) or The Aquatic Center to enjoy our fabulous community pools. A car is necessary for exploring our unique outdoor areas and there is bus service to BrianHead Ski Resort in the winter. And we are available should you need a short ride somewhere or wish to explore some of the hidden gems that Steve knows about. Additionally there is shuttle service from Las Vegas, St. George, and Salt Lake City. We can provide additional information about getting around our area and are happy to help make your time here a perfect experience. Remember- "Here you are Family!We do accept well behaved pets with the expectation that you will be a responsible pet owner and participate in any clean up necessary. We have a pooper scooper and a soft dog bed. There is a pet fee of $20-30 depending on the size of your pet and length of stay. We can provide sheets to cover the couches or the bed if your pet insists upon sleeping with you. We ask that you take your dog (preferably on a leash) to the back garden rather than using the lawn.
