Muscle Shoals # 7045 10:00 am - 8:00 pm Regency Sq Mall - on May 15, 2014 at 4:26 PM, updated FLORENCE, Alabama – The Shoals community will lose another 190 jobs this year when an Iowa-based furniture business shutters its Florence plant. The HON Company, which has 10,000 employees across the world, announced this month it will close the office furniture manufacturing facility in Florence. The plant will be shut down in phases, with the first round of layoffs beginning in the next three months. Company spokesman Gary Carlson said the decision to close had nothing to do with HON's Florence employees, most of which are full-time. The closure was driven by economics, he said.
"We're very proud of the people there," he said. "They have a lot of pride and they're continuing to work and do a great job of manufacturing products for our customers. The decision was certainly not based on them not being a great workforce." HON acquired the facility on 6400 County Road 200 from Hunt Manufacturing in 1997. Carlson said Florence production will be consolidated with other HON plants in Georgia, Texas, Iowa, Indiana, New York and North Carolina.Price Of Nike Shoes Bali Although most employees aren't interested in relocation, Carlson said the company will work with team members who are open to moving to other HON sites. In early April, Hillshire Brands Company announced it would close its Florence plant, resulting in the loss of 1,100 jobs. The former Sara Lee facility on 700 S. Wood Ave. produces Hillshire's breakfast sandwiches and sausage. In November, Tennessee Valley Authority said it would sever 150 workers when it closes all five units at its coal-powered Tuscumbia plant and two additional units at the Widow Creek plant near Stevenson. International Paper, which employed 1,096 at the Courtland plant, shut its doors in March because of declining demand for the mill's uncoated freesheet paper product. IP employed 402 workers from Lauderdale and Colbert counties. Mon-Fri: 7:30 am - 5 pm Sat: 8:30 am - 12:30 pm Moving to or from Florence, AL, 35630? Get FREE truck rental rate quotes at Super Tune. The man who helped me at this location was quick and efficient as well as friendly. It was an enjoyable experience If you rent a truck and it is for two days and you return it a day early and with additional gas in the tank, you should be credited money. Ronnie, the attendant that was there when we picked up the trailer, was very rude and unhelpful. Full disclosure: I arrived 30 minutes later than I told him on the phone due to circumstances beyond my control. He made reference to this as soon as I arrived.
No "Hello", no "thanks for doing business here", just rude all the way around. He did not cover ANY safety procedures. He also did not show us how to hook-up or unhook the trailer. (Fortunately I own trailers and know how to do this.) Maybe he was having a bad day, but not going over the basic procedures could endanger someone who doesn't know better. Also, the garage where you pay is cluttered and very dirty. Would not use again or recommend. Worth the time to find a different location to pick up from. Easy online reservation and check-in reduced the time required at the rental location. Friendly, knowledgeable person greeted me, finalized the rental agreement, and I was on my way in just a fee minutes. Would recommend U-Haul and this location. I only had to drop off the truck after hours .I did not have personal contact with staff there . The only difficulty was not the fault of this dealer ; there was construction of a bridge going on ,that made it impossible to get into the dealer location without going over the very narrow bridge and then turning around and coming back over the narrow bridge to pull in to the dealer's lot .
We had to call the U-Haul 1-800 # to ask a question about the drop off box , and the person was nice and helpful on the phone . We dropped off the keys-contract in the box and our move was complete ,and only 2.5 miles over the limit ,We paid the extra mileage fee back home at our local dealer . The drop off after hours feature is great , since I did not have to rush moving and try to get to the dealer before they closed .Find an Alabama Charity That Will Pick Up Your Clothing Donations & Other Household Items Donations Donate clothes and other household items in Alabama.
